The end of an era ...

Yesterday afternoon Tom Browne, the last survivor of three generations of professional painters (my great-grandfather, my grandfather, and his two older brothers, one of whom was Tom's father) in my family, died, aged 92. He'd been retired for quite a while, occasionally picking up his brushes to do a little restoration work here and there, just so that the family's work remained "family", the days of fancily decorated churches being long over ... now any stories of those days that he hadn't got 'round to telling will remain untold (though I doubt there is much lost ... Tom loved to talk to anyone who was interested in the family business and he was great fun to listen to).

The official online brochure about Tom's last big restoration project, which is an official Canadian historic site, isn't working today, but it's possible to view some of the finished work here.

P.S. Link to brochure .pdf, in case it starts functioning again.
