I must remember to do this next time ...

Read Samurai Knitter's review of Vogue Knitting's Fall 2011 issue BEFORE opening my own bought-at-the-grocery-store-this-morning copy (even if you don't knit, her snarky comments are worth reading as an educational guide for garment troublespotting in any kind of fashion magazine or catalogue). This way 'round provided double the laughs ... from reading the review itself and then, of course, while paging through the magazine itself (with every turn of the page bringing her relevant words back to mind).

In case you're wondering why I even bother to lay out money for the thing, like most intelligent knitters I buy VK for the excellent technical articles (the Swanson piece alone in in this issue is worth ten times the price of the magazine) and for the yarn company advertisements ... 'tis a strange quirk of reality that the sweaters in the ads, which are there to show off the properties of the yarns being promoted, are quite frequently far more interesting than the "official" magazine patterns (and the ad patterns are usually for sale by the companies or direct from the designers)
