For those who like their reading quirky ...

... I've just come across another promising small publisher: Yard Dog Press (have just logged into my work account and ordered two of their titles for myself)

How I find these things (just 'cause I occasionally get the impression that some people think I have some sort of magical ability) ... in this case about ten minutes from start to finish of a mental chain reaction. Sitting peacefully on the couch, drinking tea and re-reading Colin Dexter's The Dead of Jericho (an early Inspector Morse mystery). For some reason, damned if I know what or why, something in the text makes me think of a cover illustation of a book I don't own and have never read; however I know the picture is in one of my books on cover art. Pretty sure it's Don Maitz. Go to bookcase, pull out Don Maitz book, flip pages, yep, there it is! Flip through a few more pages of Maitz book, chuckling to self at the humour of many of the paintings. Realize I haven't seen an actual Maitz cover in ages, go to computer to see whatever happened to Don Maitz. Find official Don Maitz site ... still in business, still fantastic artist, that's nice to know. Eye caught by cover thumbnail in gallery, click for closer look, DAMN that's good AND hilarious. Google painting name, yes it's a book, here's the publisher, DAMN that SOUNDS good, hey there's a sequel, also with cover by Maitz. Books not expensive, take a chance, order books.

And now, back to Inspector Morse.

P.S. Just so you don't think I'm entirely a mental flitterbug, I did finish the chapter in Morse before indulging myself in checking out the image niggling in my brain ... I would never drop a good mystery mid-sentence. ;-)
