I've just discovered green opal ... love at first sight!!!

For those not in the know about my tastes, I've never found "clear" gemstones (diamonds, rubies, etc.) attractive ... to me they're rather shallow things that one can, if you'll forgive me saying it, see right through. My eye is caught by the opaques and irregulars with their layers and shimmers and half-hidden depths: opals, turquoise, agate, freshwater pearls, and others of that ilk. Even polished coal is, to my eye, more gorgeous than its further-compressed diamond form, every change of angle showing off a new collection of iridescent greens, purples, and golds. And the universe is always just a little bit more wonderful and magical whenever I find out about a new pretty that I can look at. :-)
