I think today was the nicest first day back at work I've ever experienced. No crises last week while I was away. No crises lurking in my email. Two shiny new books waiting on my desk (Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, by Cornelia Otis Skinner & Emily Kimbrough, and Swing Swagger Drape by Jane Slicer-Smith). Peaceful all day. And, when I got home, a notice from the managers that my rent will be going down with my next lease renewal (not a huge amount, but an unexpected surprise simply because the owners didn't go crazy raising the rents when we had our little housing shortage here ... some greed-blinded landlords doubled or tripled their rates)

Here's hoping the trend of the whole year continues with this pleasant beginning ...
