Read ...

... or, rather, devoured, Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood from cover yesterday. R. was right ... very VERY good indeed and highly recommended for your fall to-read lists. It's a spinoff from her 2003 novel Oryx and Crake, but stands quite nicely on its own ... you don't need to have read the previous book to get what's happening in the new one.

Can't really say much more about it without spoiling the story ... lessee ... it's kinda like a mixture of Tanith Lee's Biting the Sun mixed with the end-of-human-civilization-by-pandemic tale of your choice, with a hefty dash of the rot-under-the-"ideal" dystopianism of The Handmaid's Tale. Mixed well and served with a whole new flavour and twists. :-)
