Monster!

Am now on second listening of Dylan Moran's Monster CD ... this man is funny enough to be a hazard to your health!!! Bernard Black of "Black Books" is just Moran's stage persona stuck into a sitcom, so those who've seen the series can grasp an inkling of what "Monster" is like ... just imagine Bernard on a stage, in possession of a microphone and a captive audience, and rambling and ranting about anything and everything for a couple of hours. And what a brilliant ramble and rant it is! Highlights: the dangers of technology, childhood in Ireland, wine snobbery, religion, the French approach to pleasure, women and shoes, fellating Smurfs, kittens' heads as a substitute for genitals, pigs stuffed with anchovies ... and much, much more!

Most highly of highly recommendeds!!!!!

***now hoping extra-very hard that the DVD of the Monster II tour makes it here one day***

P.S. In the same shipment and also listened to with great enjoyment: Frankie Howerd at The Establishment & at the BBC (The Establishment was a famed satirical comedy club opened by Peter Cook in October 1961 ... just a couple of weeks before I was born, so obviously a good omen ***GRIN***) ... the late Frankie Howerd is a comedian adored from my childhood (when all his innuendos sailed right over my head) to my current so-called adulthood, and this live recording of his 1962 performance is loaded with much that is titterworthy. Despite being decades apart and very different in style, I found that Howerd and Moran make strangely complimentary listening ... probably because they both have very natural delivery, give an impression of one-on-one rather than of playing to a crowd, and follow a stream-of-consciousness path between topics that has you running to keep up. Also highly recommended.
