Zooming along on this. And no, your vision hasn't gone wonky ... one side of the dark red section is much higher than the other. The trick knitting employs for making three-dimensional "bumps" such as sock heels and bust darts has other uses ... in the case of this bias fabric it's changing the angle of the bias for this section (because it's only one half of a "heel" or "dart", it'll continue to lie flat instead of creating a bulge).
