The Librarian

!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT is DANCING!!!!!!!!

Went a-Googling for info on Slim Gaillard, being made curious by a statement in the bio booklet accompanying the Gaillard Laughing in Rhythm box set that he had a habit of playing piano with the backs of his hands.

And, the Internet being the wonderful thing it is, up popped this clip from his days as the guitar/piano half of the duo Slim and Slam (with bassist Slam Stewart) ... the music is fantastic, but you ain't seen nuthin' yet ... fasten your seatbelt when the dancers hit the floor ...

This five minutes alone is reason enough for me to want to seek out a DVD of "Hellzapoppin'". And, if you look carefully, you can see Slim Gaillard playing the piano palms up near the beginning, during his second bit on the keyboard. ***now off to check other YouTube videos to see if there's a better view/longer segment of Mr. Gaillard's showpiece piano-playing in any of 'em***

Edited to add: Having looked it up, the movie's actual plot, such as it is, sounds pretty lame. So mebbe I'll just stick to watching this fabulous clip, which may very well be the best part of the whole thing, over and over and over and over and over ...

And further edited for: More about the dancers
