The Librarian

A happy piece of a misspent childhood

If grandchildren begged and pleaded pitifully enough, my grandfather would open the top of his console turntable (a tall, carved wooden monster the size of a large washing machine) and play one of his Spike Jones 78s for us. This is one of the tunes we loved (possessed on CD by this generation): The Man on the Flying Trapeze, by Spike Jones and His City Slickers, with guest vocalist Doodles Weaver (uncle of Sigourney).
