Mercer

Meant to tack this onto the end of yesterday's "Bitch Lit" post ...

... but forgot. Movie recommendation from D-formerly-at-work: Bon Cop, Bad Cop ... says it's VERY good (and this is from a Montrealer who's been living and working with Anglos for quite a few years so he oughta know). Right now it's in that limbo between theatres and DVD, so I'm got it flagged on my IMDB account's "must see" list (that handily pops up little alert symbols for DVD releases and TV broadcasts).

And if the thought of seeing a film that's a good cop story, truly bilingual (with subtitles in both languages), and explores the differences between Canada's two major cultures doesn't grab you, then the only bribe I have left to offer is this: Rick Mercer has a supporting role in it. :D
The Librarian

More reading finished ...

David C. Hanrahan's biography of Colonel Blood, a 17th century celebrity who I first learned about when George Macdonald Fraser cast him as starring rogue in his wonderful The Pyrates. 'twas quite interesting to learn about the real Thomas Blood ... while he's most famous for his theft of the British Crown Jewels and his unexplained full pardon by King Charles II, that was actually just a small blip in a very colourful career that continued even after his death (when his body was exhumed so that it could be proven that he had really died and wasn't just faking it).

A worthwhile read, especially for "Pyrates" fans who want to go beyond Fraser's mini-bio in the back of that book.

Now ... that heap of Sandman comic books or Will Eisner's New York? Decisions, decisions ... :p
