Essential pirate reading

In honour of the pirate name meme going around, I thought I'd take the opportunity to promote an old and many-times-reread favourite of mine: The Pyrates by George MacDonald Fraser. A marvelous yarn, written as if it were a classic swashbuckler movie (Mr. Fraser wrote the scripts for the 1973-74 two-part film, The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers, which clearly demonstrate that the man knows the proper way to swash a buckle).
