There was "candy" awaiting me on my desk ...

... when I went back to work this morning; my copy of Henry Petroski's The house with sixteen handmade doors had arrived while I was loafing about at home. Those are some mean, cruel people I work with ... wasn't allowed to turn around and head right back home to start reading it.

Having grown up in a house built in 1891, with no two windows or doors being exactly the same dimensions (and a rather relaxed attitude towards right angles), I suspect I'm going to "recognize" a lot of things in this book. :-)
