A new month ....

And back to back odd-numbered days = back to back "Foreigner" teases. Hmmm ... or would the atevi shudder at that type of pairing as well? The whole atevi numerical thing isn't superstition ... even numbers and artificial paired symmetry such as a hallway with doorways all perfectly opposite on each side are described as having the same effect on their brains as fingernails on a blackboard have on our ears. Even a description of who is next to who at a dinner party, when you start actually figuring out seating placement in your head, has more people on one side of the table than on the other. All part of what makes the series so fascinating. :-)

From "Destroyer":
The fact was, as every Mospheiran knew, and Reunion folk did not, atevi heard numbers in everything. Numerical sensitivity was embedded in the atevi language, very possibly even in their brain architecture, influencing their whole outlook on the universe.
